ArtTrace Settings

These settings are used by the Graphics - Art Trace tool when converting a bitmap image into vector geometry (lines, arcs, circles, Bezier curves etc.) The settings determine how the data is to be translated (median filtering, conversion to monochrome, vector conversion, geometry creation and output).

Name

Enter a unique name for these settings.

Image Processing

Median Filtering

Switch this option on to remove noise from the source image.

Black & white conversion

Colour Channel

From the pulldown list choose Luminance, Grey, Red, Green, Blue or Transparency

Intensity Threshold

Enter the required value as a percentage.

Edge-Detection

Choose which edge detection method to use.

  • Search for outlines
  • Search for centre-lines - in this case enter the maximum line width in pixels

Tolerance

You can also set the tolerance for the conversion process. This will determine the maximum deviation from the source data.

Tolerance

Enter the required value in pixels.

Output Types & Smoothing

Here you can determine the type of output and specify whether or not the Smoothing tools will be called automatically when the conversion process is complete.

  • Generate lines only
  • Generate lines, arcs and circles
  • Generate smooth curves- in this case you should also specify the following values:
    • End to end tolerance
    • Maximum deviation
    • Angle tolerance
    • Generate Bezier curves

Run smoothing tool on output geometry

Switch this option on if required.

Position

Here you can determine how the vector geometry will be positioned/scaled:

  • Place over the graphic entity
  • Place manually (after wizard is closed) - you will be asked to Identify base point

Place result into a block

Switch this option on to place the generated vector geometry into a separate block.

Name

Enter the required block name.

Add Image with generated entities

This option will add the graphic image to the current layer as well as the vector entities
