Edit bar controls: Command, Add, Subtract, Retain, Show drag handles, Move entities, Group select always, Leave original
This tool allows you to select entities in the same way that Select Box does, but then you can use drag handles to move or stretch the selected entities.
You can pick directly on a single entity. Alternatively if you pick away from any entities, this is taken to be one corner of the rectangular area and you should then pick the opposite corner of the area. All entities totally or partially within the area will be selected. If the Group select always option is switched on then you will always need to specify a rectangular box.
When defining the rectangular area, if you pick a left corner first, then move the cursor rightwards, you will select all entities which are fully or partially within the rectangle. Alternatively, if you pick a right corner and move leftwards, you will select only those entities which are fully in the rectangle.
You can modify the operation of this and most other selection tools with the Shift and Control keyboard keys - please see Selecting Entities for more information.
You can also make use of saved Select Expressions via the Command , Add
, Subtract
and Retain
edit bar controls.
If you want to edit the selected entities you should have the Show drag handles option switched on. A description of the Move entities and Leave original options is given on the Drag Handles page.
Nudging
You can use the Left, Right, Up and Down cursor keys to move the selected entities in the appropriate direction. Using the Shift and Control keys you can also modify the distance to move them. The distances are configured in Snap Settings - Nudging.
Constraint Manager
If you have the Constraint Manager active whilst using this tool you will experience the following differences:
Right-click Context Menu
Two new items are added to this menu when you right-click on a dimension entity
- Edit Dimension Value - This will open the Dimension Value window
- Change to Reference / Driving Dimension - This option changes the dimension type
You can also right-click on a constraint icon. This will add a new item to the menu giving the option to Delete... the identified constraint.
Edit Bar Control
- Drag Mode - The tool operates as normal when this option is off, however, when it is switched on the default edit bar options are replaced with a new one
- Arc Mode - this can either be Shift or Change Radius
With Drag Mode switched on, rather than selecting entities you can either drag an entity or drag one end of an entity.
To drag one end of an entity, use a suitable snap mode to identify the required entity end and drag it to a new location.
To freely drag the entity to anywhere else, use a suitable snap mode to identify the mid-point of the entity and drag it to a new location.
To drag the entity to a new position parallel to its current position, identify the entity anywhere else and drag it to a new location.
When dragging an arc use the Arc Mode to determine the behaviour of the tool. Shift will allow you to drag the arc to a new position with a fixed radius. Change Radius will anchor the arc centre whilst the radius changes as necessary.
When a snap mode has been used to drag a point a coincident constraint will be added if appropriate.
