Drag

Edit Bar controls: Scale, Rotate, Mirror X, Mirror Y, Reset, Leave Original, Selection, Repeat From

This tool allows you to drag, and optionally copy, entities. The tool is similar to the Move tool except that rotation, scaling and mirroring are also possible.

Before activating the tool, select the entities to be transformed. Alternatively, if you start the tool without any selected entities you will be first asked to identify a single entity to drag.

If you wish to modify the selected entities, ensure the Leave Original option is switched off. If, on the other hand, you wish to modify a copy of the selected entities, switch the option on.

If you want to scale the selected entities, enter the required scale factor in Scale, otherwise leave it as 1.

If you want to rotate the selected entities, enter the required angle in Rotate, otherwise leave it as zero.

If you want the selected entities to be mirrored about the X or the Y axis, use Mirror X and/or Mirror Y.

Note that the scale, rotate and mirror values entered will persist the next time the tool is executed. To set them back to default values, press the Reset button.

From the Selection drop-down list select one of the following:-

  • Select New
  • Select None
  • Select Original
  • Select All

This option defines which entities will be selected after the Drag operation has completed. Select New means that the newly created entities will be selected, Select None means that no entities will be selected, Select Original means that the original entities only will remain selected and Select All means that the original entities and the newly created ones will be selected.

Pick a start point to drag the entities. You may find it beneficial to use snap modes or lock modifiers, or both, when picking the two points. The point need not be on, or even close to, the selected entities; it is simply a reference point. If you started the tool without any selected entities, the point used to identify the entity to drag is used as the start point.

Pick an end point for the translation.

When picking the second point, if Leave Original is switched off, you can hold the Shift key down to override this setting.

The entities are moved, or copied and moved, relative to the two points picked; from the first point to the second.

If you have selected Leave Original, the new entities are added to the current block.

If Leave Original is on and Select New has been chosen, an extra option will appear called Repeat From. If this option is switched on, it is possible to select a single "From" point and then as many "To" points as desired (until cancelled).

Constraint Manager

If you have the Constraint Manager active whilst using this tool you will experience the following differences:

  • If Leave Original is enabled then all constraints and dimensions are copied from the original entities onto the entities copied, as long as they are satisfied
  • If Leave Original is disabled then all constraints and dimensions are preserved on the moved entities, as long as they are satisfied
  • If the entities are picked up by clicking on one of the entities being moved and then they are snapped onto an existing entity then a coincident constraint is added between the picked up entity and the entity snapped onto, as long as one or both of the clicks are on points on the entity
