Rectangle

Edit Bar controls: Interactive, From Centre, Width, Height, Fillet Radius, Number of Sides, Angle, Bevel Inside, Holding Bridge, Clockwise, Create Duplicate Entities, Palette Group, Palette.

This tool allows you to create 2, 3 or 4 sides of a rectangle at a specified angle to the horizontal.

Interactive - this option allows you to pick the width & height of the rectangle, rather than entering a distance.

From Centre - allows you specify the centre of the rectangle. If From Centre is not checked, you will define a corner of the rectangle. The corner is determined by the specified Angle (0º is bottom-left, 90º is bottom-right, 180º is top-right and 270º is top-left).

Width - determines the width of the rectangle. Enter the required value on the edit bar or use the Left/Right Nudge keys to adjust the width interactively.

Height - determines the height of the rectangle. Enter the required value on the edit bar or use the Up/Down Nudge keys to adjust the height interactively.

Fillet Radius – determines the corner radius.

Number of sides – from the pull-down list, select the number of sides 2, 3 or 4.

Angle - determines the angle of the rectangle to the horizontal.

Bevel Inside – if the current palette has side bevels defined, this will determine the direction of the bevel. See Palette Attributes.

Holding Bridge - if the current palette has holding bridges set up, this will determine the direction of any holding bridges. See Palette Attributes.

Clockwise – determines the direction of the path.

To create the rectangle, set options required on the edit bar and click to define the centre or a corner. If Interactive has been switched on, you will then need to a second click to determine the rectangle size.

Constraint Manager

If you have the Constraint Manager active whilst using this tool you will experience the following differences:

  • A coincident constraint is added at each corner of the rectangle
  • A parallel constraint is added between each pair of opposite sides
  • A perpendicular constraint is added between each pair of neighbouring sides
  • In Non-interactive mode a distance dimension is added between opposite sides unless only 2 or 3 sides of the rectangle are being added, in which case a line length dimension is added to one or two of the sides lines instead
  • If Angle is zero then a horizontal constraint is added to one of the horizontal sides, otherwise an angle dimension is added to one of the sides
  • If Fillet Radius is non-zero then a tangent constraint is added between each side and the fillet at each end - a radius dimension is also added to one of the fillets and an equal radius constraint added to each of the fillets
