Gaps

This tool allows you to correct bad geometry in the design, such as gaps, overlaps and very small entities. Such bad geometry may cause some tools (for example the hole finder and path finder tools) to behave in unexpected ways.

Before activating the tool select all the entities you wish to be checked. Any of the selected entities may be modified by the tool.

This tool is intended for correcting small errors in geometry, typically ones less than 0.1mm (0.005in). Using tolerances greater than this could cause unexpected results and affect the integrity of the design.

On activating the tool the Tidy Gaps form appears.

On pressing OK the geometry is modified. The possible modifications include:

  • Deleting entities
  • Moving the end points of arcs or lines
  • Moving the centre points of arcs (this may be necessary to maintain tangential intersections)

All selected blocks will be processed in turn, with the current block being processed last.

NOTE: Lines that were vertical or horizontal may be rotated by small amounts in the process.

When the tool has finished a report will be generated in the output toolbox outlining the changes that have been made. This would look something like this:-

Tidy Gaps
End points moved: 5
Lines rotated: 10
Over/Under-runs fixed: 0
Arc centre moved: 2
Removed entities:  5
