3D Fold

This toolbox can be opened via the Window > Standard Toolboxes menu.

3D Fold Standard Toolbox

This tool is used to select & fold faces of a selected folding model.

Select the model you wish to fold (via the Selection tools or the 3D Scene tab of the Impact Explorer Standard toolbox).

A 2D representation of the model will then be displayed within the 3D Fold toolbox.

Click on a handle representing the face you wish to fold - the handles will change colour, once selected.

NOTE: You can use Ctrl + click to select multiple faces or to deselect selected faces.

You can also use Shift + click to select multiple faces, although the SHIFT + click will not let you deselect a selected face.

NOTE: The 3D Fold toolbox also has a context menu - allowing quick selection of all or no faces (for the selected model) and also the ability to toggle the selected faces.

Once a face has been selected, you can fold that face in a number of ways:

By clicking & dragging on a handle directly (if multiple faces are selected, clicking & dragging on one handle will fold all selected faces).

By clicking & dragging on the up/down spinners next to the angle entry field (if multiple faces are selected, clicking & dragging on one handle will fold all selected faces).

By clicking any of the pre-defined angles within the 3D Fold toolbox (if multiple faces are selected, clicking & dragging on one handle will fold all selected faces).

By entering a bespoke value into the angle entry field and clicking Return/Enter (if multiple faces are selected, clicking & dragging on one handle will fold all selected faces).

Use dependent variables - if enabled, any folding faces flagged as dependent will fold in-sync with their corresponding major creases.

Variable - any fold-angle variables present within the drawing may be accessed from this pull-down list. Once a variable has been selected, the assigned angle value will be displayed within the angle entry field.

Restore fold angle or variable - any faces folded via a a pre-defined fold angle or fold-angle variable, which have since been folded to a different angle, maybe quickly reset. Simply select the required face(s) and click the Restore fold angle or variable button to re-apply the original fold angles or variables.

Clear fold angle or variable - will clear the assigned fold angle or variable from the selected face(s).
