"Drawing" is simply a generic term for projects, templates and symbols.
A drawing consists of one or more layers, each of which contains any number of entities (such as the lines and arcs which make up the design).
All drawings are stored in the Impact database, they can be viewed using the Project Browser.
Many of the drawing's attributes can be modified via Project (even for templates and symbols).
